Bantu is a family of languages spoken in sub-Saharan Africa. In Mozambique, the predominant language is Makhuwa. However, Bantu is more than just a linguistic occurrence. It can also be a language of its own that survived the European languages that were imposed in the meantime; an identity mechanism; a sign that remained closed to the coloniser; a form of communication, with its own cultural, historical, religious and political codes; an ephemeral materialisation of the longest encounter. Bantu, the title, encompasses everything we want or imagine Bantu, the show, to be. In Bantu, Victor Hugo Pontes goes in search of a language that will probably even be devoid of words: when you speak with your body, language is universal. Bantu is a path yet to be travelled, and the journey will be made between two continents, between two countries with complex affinities and deep memories of each other.
