This time it will be João Paulo Esteves da Silva to bring his repertoire to another concert of the Axis of the Jazz Ensemble. Resulting from the work done at the Jazz residence in Aldeia IV this concert will feature young musicians who will be in rehearsals in the previous days in Famalicão. The music of pianist João Paulo Esteves da Silva is shaped by the worlds of jazz, song, classical music and traditional music. His publications range from solo CD to recordings with big bands. Also a poet and translator, he translated Shakespeare and Molière into theatre, has regularly published his poetry books and composed music in dialogue with other arts such as photography and film.
He was born in Lisbon in 1961, the son of a pianist mother and philosopher father. There are numerous collaborations, in concerts and albums, with national and foreign musicians. Of particular note are the works with Ricardo Rocha, Carlos Bica, Claudio Puntin, Samuel Rohrer, Jean-Luc Fillon, Peter Epstein, Ricardo Dias, Dennis Gonzalez in the field of instrumental music; and also the partnerships with singers, Vitorino, Sérgio Godinho, Filipa Pais, Ana Brandão, Maria Ana Bobone, Cristina Branco, Ricardo Ribeiro, among others.
He works increasingly in other areas such as poetry, publishing two books and collaborating in magazines, paper and online the theater, while translator and musician Beckett, Ibsen, Strindberg, Brecht and is interested in approaches and dialogues between music and other arts, Having signed joint works with photographer José Luís Neto and composed, for example, the soundtrack of the film "No Name" by Gonçalo Waddington. Since 2009 he is a professor at the Lisbon School of Music with a degree in Jazz.
