Famalicão was the meeting point for more than 200 young leaders of associations in the district of Braga. The District Meeting of FAJUB - Federation of Youth Associations of the District of Braga took place last Saturday, March 11, and gathered in the Parish Hall of Santo Adrião in Vila Nova de Famalicão about 47 youth associations, who participated in workshops and panels on current issues such as housing, environment, employment, social cohesion, justice, mobility, among others.
"The decisions of national governance must be taken with a very deep knowledge of the cause, and to know well the causes, one must know well the reality”, mentioned the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, João Paulo Correia, who was present at the District Meeting. The governor praised the interest and commitment of the young people of the district, which he considered to be "a good example for the country", having pointed out that "the future of the country depends on your mobilisation, interest, participation and contribution" and also mentioned that the Government highly esteems this contribution, in order to find "answers and policies that interest the younger generations".
"Famalicão has a long history in terms of youth associations and youth movements", said the Mayor, Mário Passos, who congratulated the FAJUB for having organised the meeting in Famalicão. The mayor stressed that, as mayor, "I do not abdicate of young people in the governing process (...) we address the challenges of the territory in a view of co-governance, and I hope that the Government also do so, because only then can we ensure the fixation of young people in our country".
The meeting also served to FAJUB, through the voice of its president, Fernando Vieira, to recall the new project launched this year: the Network+, an initiative that "aims at cooperation between public and private entities to develop the movement and support youth associations (...) young people are looking for new solutions and this is what FAJUB seeks to promote", he said.
FAJUB is an organization that represents politically the youth associations of the district of Braga, before public and political powers, regional and national, in order to defend the interests of the affiliated youth associations. Each year it carries out numerous activities for affiliates to encourage the sharing of good practices, highlighting the importance of the role of associativism in the non-formal education of young people to develop the youth movement in the region.
