The Municipal Library Camilo Castelo Branco, from Vila Nova de Famalicão, received yesterday the award of the Maria José Moura Prize - Best Practices in Municipal Public Libraries, 2020 edition, assigned to the project "SDG: together we change the world".
The prize was delivered to the town councillor of Education and Higher Education, Augusto Lima, in the "II Meeting of Intermunicipal Networks of Public Libraries", taking place in Mértola.
In its appreciation of the project, the jury highlighted the relevance of the theme of the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda associated to the actions promoted by the Camilo Castelo Branco Library, which with the project allows to promote the municipal library collection and other sources of information and its relationship with different strategies for the various segments of the public.
"It is an award that honours us greatly, not only for its recognition as the project with the greatest national prominence, but also for signalling our concern, of the Municipality of Famalicão, with sustainability, development, in a process of implementation in the community and especially among the younger people, the generation of the territory's future", said the town councillor.
It should be noted that the project "SDGs: together we change the world" is promoted by the Camilo Castelo Branco Municipal Library and aims to make the community aware and sensitive to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Following the Creative Writing Contest "All for a better world", an initiative of this project, a collection of interactive books is being created, the "Virtual Bookshelf" which will consist of 17 interactive short stories representing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, and 7 of these stories have already been published, the last one "The Future is at the door" dedicated to SDG 7 (Renewable and Accessible Energy).
The "Good Practices in Municipal Public Libraries Award" was established by the Directorate General of Books, Archives and Libraries in 2014, to annually reward innovative services or projects with great impact on the community, developed by Portuguese municipal public libraries and has a monetary value of 4500 euros, intended for the acquisition of resources and services to improve the quality of library services.
