Soraia Chaves is the great honoured of the 8th edition of Ymotion - Famalicão Young Film Festival, which will be held from 21 to 26 November, at Casa da Juventude, Centro de Estudos Camilianos and Fundação Castro Alves, in Vila Nova de Famalicão. The tribute to the Portuguese actress is one of the highlights of the closing session of Ymotion 2022, which takes place on 26 November.
The actress' debut in the seventh art happened in 2005, with the role of the main character Amélia in the film "O Crime do Padre Amaro", by Carlos Coelho da Silva. Her interpretation in the film, which was a success in Portugal, gave her immediate fame and captured national attention. More than 13 feature films followed, including "Call Girl" (2007), which won her the Best Actress Award at the 2007 Golden Globes, and "A Bela e o Paparazzo" (2010) by António-Pedro Vasconcelos, which proved to be two box office successes. More recently, she was part of the cast of "Bloodlines" (2018), by Manuel Pureza and Sérgio Graciano.
Soraia Chaves has also integrated the cast of several television projects, such as "The Private Life of Salazar" (2009), with which she received the Golden Globe for Best Actress in 2009, "3 Women" (2018-2022) where she played the role of the writer Natália Correia or "The Generala" (2020), a series in which she played the character of Maria Luísa Paiva Monteiro, a woman who decides to challenge all the rules, confronting patriarchal society in the 60s to 90s, and the fight for freedom and for the rights and privileges that, at the time, were reserved almost exclusively for men.
"It is important to celebrate our greatest talents. Soraia Chaves is a happy example of a case of evolution and consistency. More importantly, she is an actress in full activity, something that is important to highlight. Throughout these years, this festival has maintained its coherence in paying tribute to the actors who are still active and serve as an example to the younger ones", highlights the festival commissioner, Rui Pedro Tendinha.
Over the last few years, the Ymotion festival, which has already stamped Vila Nova de Famalicão as the Capital of Young Portuguese Cinema, maintains its bet on the valorisation of the actor in the cinematographic panorama, celebrating the greatest national talents, paying them tribute and public recognition for their professional career.
"Besides giving the stage to young national talents, through the competition of short films and the numerous activities around the theme among the younger generations, developed throughout the year, space is also given to honour the career of great national actors and actresses, as an appreciation and promotion of talent", underlines the Mayor, Mário Passos regarding the role of the festival and the numerous initiatives it hosts.
It is worth remembering that the open call for the short film competition of Ymotion 2022 is currently in progress. Entries and applications to the competition of the 8th edition of the Famalicão Youth Film Festival will be open until next October 14th, and include pecuniary prizes up to 2500 euros.
