Portugal Fashion Sessions - Famalicão Textile City gives name to the first initiative of Portugal Fashion's new project. On July 9 and 10, the city of Famalicão will host the national and international itinerary that aims to enhance the Portuguese talent and the future of national fashion, with local synergies and promotion of cultural heritages. In addition to fashion shows, themes such as ecodesign, sustainability in the fashion universe and creativity will be the focus of the actions taking place in the initiative co-organized with the City Council.
FASHION SHOWS, PRESENTATIONS. CONTEST, BRAND-UP MARKET, TALKS AND MUCH MORE
Taking place at Citeve, the first day will be dedicated to Ecodesign - Emotion Talks, which will feature a heavyweight name in the global ecosystem on sustainable fashion, the Italian Giusy Bettoni, founder and CEO of ecohub C.L.A.S.S. (Creativity Lifestyle and Sustainable Synergy), who will be in charge of the limited registration masterclass "What's sustainable fashion?" during the morning. Starting from the four-dimensional concept of sustainable fashion, the international expert will address the integration of design and innovation with sustainability, but also the capacity that sustainable fashion should have to share these values with a new generation of consumers.
In the afternoon, from 2.30pm to 3pm, Giusy Bettoni will give a talk on "Post-Pandemic fashion? Let's not waste this crisis!", followed by the discussion panels "Sustainability has gone mainstream" (3 p.m. - 4 p.m.), where Citeve's speakers Carla Silva, José Morgado, João Oliveira and Ana Tavares will be present, and "The Power of Creatives" (4.15 p.m. - 5.15 p.m.), with the presence of designers Gonçalo Peixoto and Inês Torcato, as well as Ana Coelho (Sonae Fashion) and Paulo Gomes (Manifesto Moda).
The first panel will be moderated by Raúl Fangueiro (Fibrenamics) and the second panel by Ana Tavares (Citeve). Note that, on this day, the opening and closing sessions will be in charge of Citeve's Director, Braz Costa.
On the second day of the event, the City Market will host the Brand Up Market all day long. Around 15 local brands linked to fashion will be present, including Âme Moi, Buzina, Westmister, Tanned Beachwear, Linho Puro, Bôl'Ter Intimate and Tuisca.
At the City Market, the afternoon will be dedicated to fashion shows and presentations with the iTechSyle GREEN CIRCLE by CITEVE showcase at 6pm, followed by the Salsa by Huarte show at 7pm. The initiative marks the public launch of Victor Huarte's capsule collection, which will soon arrive in Salsa shops. This special collaboration between the Famalicão brand and the Bloom platform designer is the result of the prize awarded to the young designer, in October 2020, under the Bloom Competition Powered by Sonae Fashion.
At 9 p.m., the five young finalist designers of the Ecodesign Bloom Portugal Fashion by Famalicão Cidade Têxtil competition will present the two coordinates produced from sustainable materials, provided by local industrial partners. The competition is organized together with the City Council of Famalicão and in close partnership with CITEVE and has as a final prize the participation in the next edition of Bloom, already next October, besides a pecuniary incentive of 1500 euros. One of the purposes of this initiative is to value the national creation through the ecodesign practices, in the light of the innovation of materials, processes, products and ways of communication.
The day ends with designer Maria Gambina's fashion show, at 10pm. The designer that in March, during the digital edition of Portugal Fashion, anticipated the next winter with a conceptual fashion film, will now present, and for the first time, in a physical show format, her proposals for winter 21/22.
At the same time, Portugal Fashion will also be present in local shops, with a stamp Portugal Fashion Sessions - Famalicão Textile City placed in the shop windows, in order to create synergies with the city. On July 9 and 10, Montras Pop-Up by Hugo Costa is the action that takes a special design set to 10 local shop windows.
FAMALICÃO WITH SOLUTIONS FROM “A” TO “Z”
For the director of Portugal Fashion, Mónica Neto, the initiative will serve to make "Famalicão – Textile City to be known as the epicentre of a region that hosts a complete cluster. A cluster that is already considered the biggest in Europe. A 60 km radius of solutions from A to Z within the production chain".
"In Famalicão, a long-term collaboration is proposed, based on a strategic and close cooperation. The involvement with Associations, sectorial players and local designers, brands and industry will also be articulated together, in order to guarantee involvement and impact", he explains, adding that "the Portugal Fashion Sessions concept is based on a structured strategy of local valorisation, without neglecting the prestige and positioning of the Portugal Fashion brand. All events are guided by the quality of production, conceptual and creative curatorship, and strength of communication."
