Joseph Losey's first French film and one of his greatest works, Mr. Klein is, according to the director, "a fable in the form of a warning". Klein (Alain Delon, in one of his best roles) is an opportunistic art dealer, who takes advantage of the Occupation by buying precious items from fleeing Jews, until his own identity is called into question when he is confronted with the existence of "another" Robert Klein, a Jew wanted by the police. In this film, which is also an analysis of the police state and a journey through the labyrinths of individual and collective guilt, which puts its finger on the wound of what happened in France during the Occupation, Mr. Klein is a "Mr. Almost-All-The-People", who doesn't want to see, who doesn't want to understand, the one who made possible the great atrocities of the 20th century.
