Starting next week, the citizens of Famalicão will have a mobile recycling centre at their disposal, which will allow them to deposit and recycle some waste that cannot be deposited in the traditional recycling bins, such as light bulbs, ink cartridges, batteries or small electrical appliances.
The equipment will start visiting all parishes in the municipality as of next Tuesday, the 7th, and will be moved on a weekly basis. The first stop of the Eco centre will be in the parish of Abade Vermoim, from 7 to 14 March. It will be followed by the parishes of Antas (14 to 21 March), Arnoso Santa Eulália (21 to 28 March) and Arnoso Santa Maria (28 March to 4 April).
The waste that can and should be deposited in this equipment are: light bulbs (tubular and normal), portable batteries and accumulators, ink cartridges and tonners, waste paper (non-packaging, such as magazines and newspapers), clothes, shoes and toys, small household appliances (examples: irons, toasters, electric coffee makers, shavers, among others), plastic caps and stoppers and flat glass (glass and mirrors).
With the availability of this equipment to the population, the municipality led by Mário Passos takes another step towards the goal of environmental sustainability, increasing the amount of waste sent for recycling.
"By traveling weekly through the various parishes of the municipality, this equipment is giving the possibility to the famalicenses to recycle different objects without leaving their parish. We are taking the Eco centre to the people, promoting recycling among the citizens and reinforcing the municipality's sustainability policy", says the town's Environment councillor, Hélder Pereira.
The schedule for the mobile Eco centre may be consulted
here and is subject to change.
If the first day of the placement of the equipment is a public holiday, the equipment will only be placed on the next working day.
