"Hope is the strength that gives face to the Dream". This is the visible inscription on the first stone of the Residential Structure for Older People (ERPI - home) of the Social Centre of the Landim Parish, a project that also provides for the expansion of the Landim residential home for people with disabilities and the construction of the Centre for Activities and Training for Inclusion (CACI). The start of the works was marked yesterday, 26 February, in a ceremony associated to the 35th anniversary of the institution that was attended by the Mayor, Mário Passos.
Besides the parish of Landim, the new ERPI will also serve other areas of the municipality, such as Riba de Ave, as well as the parish of Monte Córdova, in Santo Tirso.
"For 20 years that the people of Landim desired this equipment and now sees the dream beginning to come true", said the parish priest, Father Armindo Paulo, a feeling that is also shared by the President of the Parish Council, Avelino Silva, who sees with good eyes this reinforcement of the social response in the parish.
The work, which should be concluded within a year, corresponds to an investment of around 2.3 million euros and will be financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) of 1.5 million euros. The remainder will be the responsibility of the Landim Parish Social Centre, an effort for which it will have the support of the City Council.
Mário Passos stressed that this is a work that has "a great impact on the welfare of the local population" and that "the social response of the county is gradually increasing and this results in greater peace of mind for the local population, which is more supported at this level.
The mayor of Famalicão also took advantage of the presence of the director of the Braga District Centre of Social Security, João Ferreira, to leave the challenge to update the reference value of the agreements and that they be expanded, so that it is possible to "assist a greater number of people (...) the Social Centres have this availability, however, they lack the resources that allow them to take this step".
