Oregon (USA), early 19th century. Cookie is hired as a cook by a group of hunters. In time, he becomes friends with King-Lu, a Chinese boy who, just like him, grew up in poverty without ever losing hope for a better life. One day, they both come up with a business idea that could change their lives: selling biscuits. The partnership becomes a great success, with sales increasing day by day. However, the risk is high, as it means going out every night to steal milk from the only cow there is, which happens to belong to a rude man who is not very generous. A dramatic story filmed by Kelly Reichardt ("Old Joy", "Meek's Cutoff", "Wendy and Lucy"), which adapts the work "The Half Life", written by Jonathan Raymond, his regular collaborator, who also wrote the script. Taking on the characters are actors John Magaro, Orion Lee, Toby Jones, Ewen Bremner, Scott Shepherd, Gary Farmer and Lily Gladstone.
