The Town Hall of Vila Nova de Famalicão will grant 421 scholarships to young people from Famalicão attending higher education, in a municipal financial effort of almost 257 thousand euros - the largest ever in the support to university students in the municipality.
The result of the scholarship applications, which ran until November 15 last year, were made known this Thursday, March 9, at the meeting of the municipal executive.
This morning, at the end of the Town Hall Meeting, the Mayor spoke about the importance of this support. "The Town Hall is committed to invest in the qualification of our young people because we know that this is the way to a more attractive and competitive territory", said Mário Passos.
This year the municipality received 653 applications. Although the approved scholarships are, in its majority, attributed to economically more disadvantaged aggregates, Mário Passos reminded that the paradigm of this type of support is changing. "The current economic situation in which we live has left many families in a vulnerable situation. These are families that until now were not eligible for this support, but now face serious difficulties to meet their commitments and we cannot turn our backs on this new reality", alerted the mayor, noting that the income per capita of the approved applications has increased from year to year.
The support allocated for this school year 2022/2023 oscillates between 500 and 1100 euros. With 500 euros 231 young people benefited, with 600 euros 72, with 700 euros 5, with 750 euros 65, with 850 euros 17, with 950 euros 2 students benefited. With 1000 euros 23 young people were awarded and with 1100 euros 6.
The ceremony of delivery of scholarships to students who attend Higher Education is scheduled for March 25, Saturday, in Casa das Artes de Famalicão, as part of the celebrations of National Student Day.
Remember that in 2021/2022 the local authority has attributed, in total, 401 scholarships, in a global investment of 243 thousand euros.
For over ten years, the famalicense local authority, through the Youth Department, annually awards scholarships to students from the municipality who attend higher education.
