Holy Week is already happening in Vila Nova de Famalicão. The 1st Walk for the Religious Heritage of Famalicão took place last Saturday and was the kick-off for an eclectic and varied programme, which will last until 15th April.
From tours through the Religious Heritage of Famalicão to the Procession of the Burial of the Lord, the most imposing and solemn public demonstration of Holy Week, passing through gastronomy, music and cinema, there are several reasons to come to the urban centre of Famalicão during this Easter period.
The programme proposes the Young Stations of the Cross (March 31st), the recreation of the Triumphal Entry of Jesus into Jerusalem (April 2nd), the Biblical Parade 'Passover Hebrew' (April 2nd), street animation by a Group of Farricocos (April 6th and 7th), Last Supper" re-enactment (April 6), Procession of Our Lord of the Green Cane - "Our Lord Ecce-Homo" (April 6), celebration of the Lord's Passion (April 7), procession of the Lord's Burial (April 7) and the Solemn Easter Vigil (April 8).
Gastronomy is also present. The 'Sweet Easter', on April 1 and 2, in Praça D. Maria II, includes a market dedicated to Portuguese sweets, with delicacies for all tastes, even the most artistic, with a dance show, music, conversation and tasting of green wines, and, the novelty this year, the '1st Competition of Home-made Easter Sweets', on April 1.
The Holy Week of Famalicão, whose organization is the responsibility of the Confraternity of the Holy Wounds, with the support of the Town Hall, the Parish of Santo Adrião and ACIF - the Commercial and Industrial Association of Vila Nova de Famalicão.
The Holy Week programme also involves Casa das Artes which, on April 2, breaks the boundaries of its stage, taking to the New Mother Church the concert 'Requiem' by the Hungarian composer Frigyes Hidas (1928 - 2007), a national premiere performed by the Portuguese Symphonic Band, with the participation of the choir from ESMAE - Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo and from the Academia de Música de Costa Cabral, from Oporto.
In addition to this concert, there will also be in the small auditorium of the Casa das Artes, the Film Cycle 2023 - Youth Days, which includes the screening of the films 'The Bride' (2022) by Sérgio Trefaut and 'Return to Dust' (2022) by Li Ruijun, on April 4 and 5.
