The reforestation of the Vila Nova de Famalicão Council has a new number: 60 thousand trees.
The new environmental goal of the City Council of Vila Nova de Famalicão for 2030 was announced last Saturday, March 25, in the last day of the Environment Week, which was marked by the signing of a cooperation protocol between the municipality and the local environmental association H2Ave for a more sustainable management and promotion of the municipal grove.
The mayor explained that the current challenge of 30 thousand trees "will be reached during the course of this year" and that the time has come for the entire famalicense community to embrace a new goal. "The famalicenses have already demonstrated, on several occasions, that they are aligned with our concern. They are the main responsible for the success of the previous projects and we continue to count on everyone in the construction of a greener and sustainable territory", said Mário Passos, also listing a set of urbanistic projects that will contribute for this new goal, such as the urban green park of Pelhe, in Queimados, and the expansion to the North of the Sinçães Park.
About the protocol established last Saturday with H2Ave - Civic Movement Association for the Dynamisation and Enhancement of Vale do Ave, the mayor reiterated the idea that the current climate challenges "require everyone's action", showing himself "very pleased" with the willingness shown by the famalicense association to collaborate with the municipality in this process, particularly in terms of forestation.
The signing of the document took place in the Pedome Elementary School, with the presence of the Councilman of the Environment, Hélder Pereira, and the President of H2Ave, Aurélio Costa.
The H2Ave commits itself, thus, to collaborate with the municipality, through the follow-up and monitoring of management operations, replacement and planting of trees, integrated in urban, rural and riparian ecosystems in the county, including monitoring of technical and scientific advice developed in the areas of arboriculture, risk assessment, inventory and urban forestry developed by the municipality or by entities accredited for this purpose. It also undertakes to propose, promote and disseminate programmes and actions to train the population in the value of trees, their functions, sustainable management and ecosystem services provided, and to propose the afforestation of spaces and areas under the scope of municipal environmental projects.
In turn, the municipality undertakes, among others, to support actions and activities of H2Ave, under its environmental and afforestation projects and activities, including the supply of trees and shrubs and other materials and to promote, in partnership with H2Ave, afforestation actions and promotion of afforestation projects in the municipality.
It should be noted that the H2Ave has as its objective the environmental promotion, promotion and enhancement of the entire area surrounding the Rio Ave, ensuring a careful harmony between the environment, populations and their socio-economic development.
