The municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão wants "more and better future" for young people famalicenses and, therefore, the bet of the municipality in supporting university students is to continue.
The guarantee was left last Saturday, March 25, by the Mayor of Vila Nova de Famalicão, on the day he attributed the largest number ever of scholarships to young people from the municipality who attend higher education.
For this academic year 2022/2023, the municipality granted 421 scholarships, in a municipal financial effort of almost 257 thousand euros.
"What we want is above all to help families and young people to invest in their training paths so that they are increasingly valued and qualified. Famalicão benefits from this reality and it is our intention to continue this bet and, if possible, to reinforce it year after year", assured Mário Passos.
The mayor, who was accompanied by the councillor for Youth, Luísa Azevedo, also praised the importance of this and other social support in a time when Portuguese families face added difficulties. "In Famalicão we have made our way to meet the problems and difficulties of the people of Famalicão. We are attentive, but we need the Central State to go further", he said.
It should be noted that the support allocated for this school year 2022/2023 range between 500 and 1100 euros. 231 young people were benefited with 500 euros, 72 with 600 euros, 5 with 700 euros, 65 with 750 euros, 17 with 850 euros, 2 students were benefited with 950 euros. With 1000 euros 23 young people were awarded and 6 were awarded 1100 euros.
In 2021/2022, the local authority awarded 401 study grants, with an overall investment of 243 thousand euros.
For over ten years, the famalicense municipality, through the Youth Department, annually awards scholarships to students from the municipality who attend higher education.
