The Municipality of Famalicão, through the Bernardino Machado Museum, is holding another edition of the
Autumn Encounters conference on 17 and 18 November at the Cupertino de Miranda Foundation, which this year will discuss the social question during the Dictatorship, from 1926 to 1974.
The theme and the historical analysis have parallels in the present day and it is precisely in the context of the "acceleration of social inequalities fuelled by the unexpected acuteness of the war between Ukraine and Russia and its calamitous and painful international consequences, especially in terms of migration and global food shortages," emphasises Norberto Cunha, the Museum's Scientific Coordinator.
The Autumn Meetings bring together more than a dozen professors, historians and researchers from various Portuguese universities who are leading figures in the study and approach of the subject, giving this meeting a prominent place in the Portuguese cultural panorama, with a particular focus on academia.
It's worth remembering that the Autumn Meetings have been held since 1988 and have debated and promoted reflection on numerous themes in Portuguese history and society, such as "Portuguese Agriculture", "The First Republic in Portuguese Municipalities", "Elections" and "War and Peace between Nations" or, in the latest edition, "Norm and deviation in the dictatorship (1926 - 1974)".
Registration is free, with a Certificate of Participation and can be made until 4pm on 16 November on the website of the Bernardino Machado Museum, at www.bernardinomachado.org.
