Salomé, daughter of Portuguese immigrants in France, has always spent her summer holidays in her family's village in Trás-os-Montes. She and her grandmother, considered a witch by the other inhabitants of the village, have a very close bond. But when the old lady suddenly dies next to her, the girl starts to feel her spirit inside her and almost kills one of her neighbours, who she thinks is responsible for her death. Premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, "Living Soul" marks the feature debut of Portuguese-descendant Cristèle Alves Meira. The story, although fictional, contains several biographical elements and tries to portray Transmontana culture through the eyes of a child. Filmed during the summer of 2021, in Junqueira, in the municipality of Vimioso (where part of Cristèle's family comes from), this drama features the performances of Ana Padrão, Lua Michel (the director's daughter), Pedro Lacerda, Valdemar Santos and several non-professional actors living in the town.
