From simple things emanate intense sensations, and take hold of our sensitivity. Ilda David' has developed a work of painting that urges us to contemplation. A work developed with a very careful sensibility, in a path that brings to the heart of her painting, readings, iconographies, walks through nature in a sharp attention to the simplest elements.
Nature has been a presence in her work, in a meditated way, in a close relationship with the texts of the authors that form her family of affections and sensibilities. In her wandering through books, she lives with intensity the revelations that are hidden in them and through painting she seeks to unveil the sensibilities suspended therein.
The works presented here are closely linked to the reading of the book "The Narrow Waters" by Julien Gracq and allow us a walk through the countryside, through the interior of nature, where every colour, every fragrance, every breeze, every reflection take on a particular dimension. A lengthy and contemplative delivery is called for. The "accidents of shadow and light" are so mysterious that they reveal the truth of our sensations.
Ilda David '
Born in 1955 in Benavente. Lives and works in Lisbon. Attended the Painting course between 1976-981 at Escola Superior de Belas Artes de Lisboa. Besides painting, she has also devoted herself to the illustration of books in collaboration with many of the best Portuguese poets. In an initiative by José Tolentino Mendonça, he illustrated a new edition, in eight volumes, of the first translation of the Bible into Portuguese, translated by João Ferreira Annes d'Almeida, published by Assírio & Alvim, 2006. In 2012 he illustrated books by Camilo Castelo Branco, Maria Velho da Costa and Manuel António Pina.
