The Vila Nova de Famalicão City Council is going to challenge private investors and developers to look at the land where the Municipal Stadium and training ground are located and develop a real estate proposal that includes the construction of the new municipal stadium and other facilities for commerce and services, a municipal multipurpose hall and a new underground car park.
The strategy found by the Famalicense local authority for the construction of the future Municipal Stadium, which will involve the concession of the land for a period of time to be defined once the evaluation and economic and financial feasibility studies have been finalised, was presented today by the Mayor to the management of the club and SAD of Futebol Clube de Famalicão, José Pina Ferreira and Miguel Ribeiro.
At this Tuesday's meeting, which took place in the Town Hall, Mário Passos pointed to the beginning of the second half of this year for the start of the tendering procedure, adding that "it is the will of the Town Hall that the construction of the entire development begin in 2025".
Mário Passos believes that the solution found will give a new centrality to this prime area of the city. "We've managed to enhance the urban space and keep the Municipal Stadium in the same place, providing it with the right conditions for a top national and international football team, all without any associated municipal financial investment."
The mayor also said that a large technical team is working on drawing up the base programme, the property valuation and the studies needed to open the international public tender.
It should be noted that the consideration that the municipality is willing to give the developers is the transfer of the land in question for a certain period, after which the land and the equipment built will revert to the municipality.
During the concession period, the promoter will be able to commercially exploit the infrastructures created, according to its business plan, and it will be a mandatory clause that the stadium to be built be for the use of Futebol Clube de Famalicão.
