The parish of Pedome, in Vila Nova de Famalicão, plans to open the doors to the new headquarters of the Parish Council within a year. The work, estimated to cost 350,000 euros, is already underway on a plot of land acquired by the municipality in a central area of the parish - Avenida de São Pedro.
"It was a long-standing need. The current headquarters is more than 35 years old and has poor conditions, which will be met with this new building equipped with several rooms and offices and closer to the centre of the parish so that people can be well served, in comfort, as the times demand," said Mayor Mário Passos, who marked the launch of the work this Sunday.
The president of the parish council spoke of "a great day for Pedome". José Luís Alves was pleased to see the long-awaited project on the ground. "We considered remodelling the current council headquarters, but we found a better solution here and we want to thank the municipality for its commitment to funding the new building, which will have all the conditions that the population deserves," he said, describing the work as "a historic milestone for the parish".
It should be noted that the current council building will continue to serve the people of Pedomonte, particularly the parish's associative movement. "Some work will have to be done, but the destination has already been identified, which will be the local associations that will have a space here to develop their activities," said Mário Passos.
The mayor also mentioned other investments in the parish, such as the repaving of Avenida de S. Pedro. "We want to give the best possible conditions to all the parishes in the municipality, we're going to continue making investments and Pedome is no exception to this rule," he concluded.
