Famalicão will be buzzing with the best national and international dancers at the 9th edition of Famalicão Dança. The competition, which has already put the municipality of Famalicão on the map of the world sports dance circuit, returns to the Municipal Pavilion on 11 November for a night full of glamour and ecstatic choreography.
This year's competition includes the World Championships in the Ten Dances, a World Dance Sport Federation (WDSF) adult absolute competition and the 6th competition of the National Dance Sport Circuit in Latin and standard, awarded by the Portuguese Dance Sport Federation (FPDD).
The presentation of the 9th edition of Famalicão Dança, an event organised by the Gindança Academy with the support of the Municipality of Famalicão, took place on Wednesday 20th at the Town Hall.
"It's an event with enormous relevance for our region. The international dimension of the competition attracts many visitors and a lot of attention to Vila Nova de Famalicão, as far as dance is concerned," said Pedro Oliveira, the Councillor for Sport.
"We want all five continents to be represented (...) we're expecting at least 30 pairs from 30 countries to take part," said the president of Gindança, Anabela Gomes, emphasising that they want the quality of the event to be "at the highest level".
"This year we've raised the bar with an absolute world championship," emphasised the technical director of Famalicão Dança, Duarte Paulo Vieira. "It's a very big responsibility, but one that we're sure we'll be able to fulfil," he said.
Among those present was also the pair that will be representing Portugal at the Ten Dances World Championships. "It's an honour to represent Portugal, especially in such a well-organised competition (...) we're going to do our best as dancers in our country," said Alexandra Braga, the dancer who will be representing Portugal with Dominik Sopocko.
In addition to the competition, on Sunday 12 November, as part of Famalicão Dança and taking advantage of the presence of prestigious international coaches, there will be training sessions for athletes, coaches and judges, which will take place at the Camilo Castelo Branco Secondary School.
It's worth remembering that Famalicão Dança has put the city of Famalicão on the national and international dance sports map. To realise this event of excellence, Gindança has the support of the Famalicão Municipality, the Portuguese Sports and Youth Institute and the Portuguese Dance Sports Federation, as well as the sponsorship of local and regional companies.
