It will be possible to explore another piece of Vila Nova de Famalicão's history. The new volume of the Cultural Bulletin, No. 3 of the 6th series, will be presented on 9 February at 6.15pm at the Bernardino Machado Museum and invites you to
"embark on a journey through the roots" of the municipality, as the mayor, Mário Passos, says in the opening text of the publication published by the municipality.
The Cultural Bulletin does "justice to the history and identity of the municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão", writes the mayor in the opening note, where he also praises the publication's important contribution to "the study and investigation of local history", and thanks "all those involved in this new edition".
"This edition of the Cultural Bulletin is diverse in its themes and plural in its authorship," adds Pedro Oliveira, the Councillor for Culture, in his editorial. "Another issue of the Cultural Bulletin, a new opportunity to present and publicise studies, works and projects on the reality of our history, our heritage and our culture," he says.
The new volume contains 13 articles on the theme "From the local to the global", which cover subjects such as the Holy Office in Vila Nova de Famalicão, the Moorish Chicken, the Famalicense Squares of the Senate of Barcelos, Vasco de Carvalho and São Julião de Calendário, the impact of the Colonial War on the Military Region of Braga, among others, by the 'pen' of full professors and researchers linked to renowned Portuguese institutions.
The Famalicão Cultural Bulletin began publication in 1980 and is one of the oldest publications of its kind in Portugal. Each volume contains a compilation of scientific papers that deepen our knowledge of Vila Nova Famalicão, focusing on issues surrounding its heritage and people, and including contributions on the social and political issues of our time.
The new volume of the Cultural Bulletin will soon be available for consultation.
