The Mayor of Vila Nova de Famalicão wants to give energy autonomy to schools in the municipality. Mário Passos announced yesterday, September 28, in the commemorative ceremony of the 187th anniversary of the county that the City Council is working on an energy transition plan for school buildings, which will involve the installation of photovoltaic panels that will feed the educational facilities.
This was one of the actions that the mayor highlighted in the scope of the municipal commitment for the climate crisis and the sustainability of the territory. Mário Passos elected the environment as the central theme of the County Day celebrations, publicly recognising the 57 educational institutions of Famalicão distinguished this year with the Eco-School flag, and which placed the municipality in the top 5 of the municipalities with more distinctions in the country.
"The environment and sustainability must, more than ever, be one of the priorities of national, regional and local government action. We have to be able to change paradigms, mentalities and habits. We cannot continue to squander natural resources as if nothing was happening. The truth is that there really is no planet B", said the mayor, praising the example of the work developed in Eco-Schools, "seed of the present and of the future for our land".
The ceremony took place in the Casa do Território, in the Devesa Park, precisely on the day that this celebrated its first decade of existence. "There could not be a better framework to renew our commitment to the environment", said the mayor, adding, "the Devesa Park is the reflection of good public investment. An investment that had immediate and effective return on the quality of life of Famalicão. A great example of preservation and enhancement of a natural space".
