The mayor of Vila Nova de Famalicão, Mário Passos, said "present" to the first day of school in the municipality. The mayor dedicated Monday morning to education and accompanied the start of the school year in the parishes of Ribeirão, Lousado and Bairro.
Mário Passos entered the Ribeirão E.B. 2,3 School to the sound of the first call to classes, in the company of the Councillor for Education, Augusto Lima, the director of the School Grouping, Elsa Carneiro, and the president of the Parish Council, Leonel Rocha.
In Ribeirão, he chatted with students and saw the modernity and comfort of the new classroom building, built as part of the second phase of the project to remodelling and extend Ribeirão's E.B. 2,3, which involved an investment of more than five million euros. The new space, which includes classrooms, laboratories, a teachers' room, reprographics and an auditorium for 140 people, left the mayor "very satisfied".
From Ribeirão he went to Lousado. In the company of the president of the parish council, Jorge Ferreira, Mário Passos visited the parish's primary school and kindergarten, where he was received in a festive atmosphere, to the sound of songs sung by the little ones.
Monday morning culminated at Bairro Primary School, where he shared lunch with the educational community and the president of the parish council, Rui Alves.
"Another school year is starting and I'm very happy to see that the municipality's education policies are bearing many valuable fruits", he said, pleased with what he saw in the schools he visited. "The enthusiasm of our children and young people as they return to school is palpable, and this is due to the fact that we have excellent education in Vila Nova de Famalicão", he concluded.
