A sea of flowers flooded the city of Vila Nova de Famalicão over the weekend. Thousands of people from several parts of Portugal and Spain came to Vila Nova de Famalicão to celebrate with the famalicenses the Flower Festival.
There were many reasons that led visitors from Aveiro, Viseu, Galicia, among other places, to get to know the 'garden' in which our urban centre has become over the last three days, with special emphasis on the iconic Batalha das Flores parade, which took place yesterday afternoon, and which has been gaining more and more supporters.
"It is a joy for me to see the streets of our city full of people (...) it was another successful edition", says the Mayor, Mário Passos, who thanks "everyone who made the Flower Festival this incredible event".
The mayor also highlights the increasing number of visitors from outside the region. "We are before a diamond in the rough. We have received visitors from various parts of the country, including Spain, and this shows that it is an attractive event with a great tourist potential (...) The Flower Festival has been giving many good results", comments Mário Passos.
More than a space of floral beauty, during the 12th, 13th and 14th of May, the Flower Festival transformed the centre of Famalicão in a space of inter-generational and intercultural conviviality, with a market of flowers and plants, local products, taverns, art, music, street animation, and much more. Many were the reasons that brought thousands of visitors to Famalicão, a growing trend that is expected to continue in the coming years.
