Famalicão has a new Social Development Plan that will run until 2030. The Social Diagnosis that underpins the preparation of this important strategic document for the Municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão was presented on 15 November at the Cupertino de Miranda Foundation.
The Social Diagnosis, drawn up by Smart Value Consulting, presents a municipal and regional portrait based on different sources of statistical information and consultation with formal and informal agents in the area.
Its preparation included a process of involvement, consultation and promotion of collective debate, with the active participation of agents and institutional representatives who are part of the Vila Nova de Famalicão Social Network, working in areas related to social development in the ten Inter-Frequency Social Commissions (CSIF) in the municipality.
"It was a very participatory process and one of the objectives was precisely that: to involve local agents in this whole process (...) to enable them to intervene more actively and help them define a set of guidelines," says Paulo Alves, from Smart Value Consulting. According to him, the document "is, above all, a working tool to help organisations find information that can be useful, for example, in accessing EU funding and strengthening what they can do in the future".
"It's a social X-ray of our territory that will allow us to create the conditions for sustainable social development that leaves no-one behind," said the Mayor of Vila Nova de Famalicão, Mário Passos.
"The social dimension is a permanent challenge," says Mário Passos, noting that "we are fully committed to the social development of our municipality and to taking solid steps, which are reflected in the strategic objectives outlined in this plan and in the proposed actions."
The Social Diagnosis was the main reference element for defining Vila Nova de Famalicão's new Social Development Plan (PDS), which is articulated with the purposes, programmes and agendas described in Famalicão.30 - Strategic Plan 2022-2030, presented in January 2023 by Vila Nova de Famalicão City Council.
The new PDS, which will be in force between 2023 and 2030, is based on two strategic axes: Social Network and Governance for Resilience (Axis E1) and Territory for Social Inclusion (Axis E2), two strategic orientations prompted by the challenges foreseen in the territory's priority areas for social and community intervention.
Within these strategic objectives, nine "Social Development Missions" were defined, comprising 76 actions as a whole, which consolidate the two strategic axes mentioned above.
The nine missions outlined in the document are: Consolidating the Vila Nova de Famalicão Social Network; Promoting new models of care; Stimulating social innovation processes and initiatives; Combating vulnerability and poverty among families, particularly children and young people; Promoting active, healthy and successful ageing; Promoting mental and community health; Including people with disabilities, qualifying intervention models; Welcoming and integrating migrants and their families; Consolidating and qualifying social, educational and therapeutic intervention models in the field of addictions.
