The municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão has once again been recognised as the 'Most Family Responsible' municipality.
This is the twelfth time - the eleventh time in a row - that Vila Nova de Famalicão has received the honour, awarded annually by the Observatory of Family-Responsible Municipalities.
This is in recognition of the policies to support families and the municipal measures implemented in the territory throughout 2022 to support families with special needs, measures to reconcile work and family, across the board and in areas such as Education, Housing, Transport, Health, Culture, Sport and Social Action.
Examples of these measures are the social tariffs for water and waste, the award of scholarships to university students, the support for rent and building work under the Casa Feliz municipal programme, the payment of federative registrations and respective insurance for the municipality's young athletes, as well as the existence of a fourth tier of municipal social support in Education.
The Family Responsible Municipalities Observatory is an initiative of the Portuguese Association of Large Families, in partnership with the Social Security Institute. Its main objectives are to monitor, reward and publicise the best practices of Portuguese municipalities in terms of family responsibility.
The awarding of the 'Most Family Responsible municipality' flag will take place on 6 December in the Auditorium of the Rectory of the University of Coimbra.
