From 16 to 22 September, Vila Nova de Famalicão joins nearly two thousand towns and cities across Europe to mark European Mobility Week.
In Famalicão, the European Commission's main awareness-raising campaign for sustainable urban mobility will take place under the theme of "Energy Efficiency".
Over the next week, there will be numerous activities to raise awareness among Famalicenses of more sustainable mobility and the use of public spaces for people rather than cars.
On Sunday 17th September, Mobility Day will be celebrated under the slogan "Pelo Chão da Cidade", involving recreational, educational, cultural and sporting activities, such as the Road Education School, the Cycling Circuit and the Eco Roller Coast, among others. The activities will take place in Praça D. Maria II and Rua João Faria dos Guimarães, in the centre of Famalicão.
This day will also see the Vai à Vila: Mobility Market, which will be set up in Praça D. Maria II and will run from 10am to 6pm, with the presence of a dozen institutions and organisations linked to the area of mobility, including Afacycles, Batidos com o Coração, Famabike, Transdev, CP - Comboios de Portugal, ACP - Automóvel Clube de Portugal, among others.
After a day "On the Floor of the City" in Famalicão, on 19 September there will be a ceremony to sign the protocol and raise the flag of the Network of Cities and Towns that Walk, at the Town Hall. Also noteworthy is the "3 Horas Noturnas de BTT" sporting event that will take place on 16 September in Praça D. Maria II, organised by the Amigos do Pedal Famalicão Association.
Also scheduled to pass through Famalicão on Wednesday 20 September is the national competition "Journey for the Climate", developed as part of Cooler World, a movement created by Get2C in partnership with seven Portuguese municipalities and national institutions, with the aim of informing and inspiring the population towards Carbon Neutrality and a more sustainable life.
The European Mobility Week was created in 2002 by the Commissioner for the Environment with the political and financial support of the European Commission (EC), and is a partnership between the European Coordination Office, local authorities and the EC.
