Vila Nova de Famalicão City Council is launching a public tender for the construction of a university residence in the heart of the city centre, with a base price of 5.1 million euros. The proposal for the contract decision will be considered tomorrow, Thursday 31 August, at a meeting of the municipal executive.
The future student residence will be located in the current premises of the municipal environmental services, in the heart of the city. It will be the first to be built in the municipality of Famalicense and will cater for the four higher education institutions based in the municipality: the Polytechnic and University Higher Education Cooperative (CESPU), the Cávado and Ave Polytechnic Institute (IPCA), the University of Minho and Lusíada University.
According to the description, the project in question involves the refurbishment and adaptation of the existing main building and the construction of a new block specially designed for residential purposes.
Once the building has been refurbished and extended, it will be able to accommodate 91 residents in 53 rooms of five different types, including single and double rooms and studios and rooms adapted for people with reduced mobility. In addition to the residential units, the building will also include various functional areas, such as reception, study room, indoor and outdoor dining and socialising space, kitchens, sanitary facilities, technical rooms, staff support area, management areas, storage and a garage/workshop for bicycles.
The future residence will dedicate 81 per cent of its capacity to displaced scholarship students, which corresponds to 74 beds.
According to the specifications, the execution period for this contract is 365 days. Tenders must be submitted by 23h59 on the 21st day after the notice is sent for publication in the Official Gazette.
This is an investment funded by the National Plan for Accommodation in Higher Education (PNAES) supported by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), in partnership with the Erasmus+ Education and Training National Agency.
It is worth remembering that due to the installation of the equipment, the City Council decided to transfer the municipal environmental services to the former premises of the city's Tax Office, in Rua Ernesto de Carvalho.
