Famalicão has already started celebrating the 50th anniversary of the conquest of freedom. The subject was on the table at the colloquium "From Famalicão to the World: 25 April 1974 - The Meaning of a Historic Date in Vila Nova de Famalicão", which took place on 10 and 11 November at the Camilo Castelo Branco Municipal Library, and is also the main theme of Alfredo Cunha's photographic exhibition, "25 April 1974. Thursday", at the Praça - Famalicão Municipal Market.
Last Saturday, the prestigious photographer Alfredo Cunha lifted the veil on his new exhibition in Famalicão. Made up of photographs taken when he was still a young amateur photographer, "25 April 1974. Thursday" is on show at the Famalicão Market until 30 May and contains images taken on the day of the Carnation Revolution.
The Mayor of Famalicão, Mário Passos, attended the opening of the exhibition and praised the photographic work, which "is a visual narrative of one of the most important days in Portugal's history".
It's worth remembering that the Famalicão municipality, in conjunction with the national commission, is preparing a programme for next year to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the conquest of freedom by highlighting the most significant moments in the process that led to democratic consolidation.
