In 2023, Vila Nova de Famalicão City Council ensured the payment of federative registrations and respective insurance for more than 5200 athletes in the municipality, in a municipal financial effort of more than 157 thousand euros.
Compared to 2022, 87 more athletes were supported under this measure promoted by the City Council, which covers non-professional athletes in the male training levels (5 to 18 years old) and all female levels, including seniors.
"We continue to invest in sports training and this measure should be seen not only as a stimulus to attract athletes and help them realise their sporting goals, but also as a way of boosting the practice of sport, a very important aspect for the quality of life of our young people," says the Mayor, Mário Passos.
The municipal support covers various sports, such as football, martial arts, basketball, athletics, roller hockey and figure skating, handball, sports dance, swimming, tennis, obstacle course, rugby, badminton and volleyball, with a total of over a hundred sports associations benefiting.
It should also be noted that the municipality has also supported sports medical examinations for the purposes of federative registration. Last year more than 700 examinations were carried out, totalling a municipal investment of more than 11,000 euros.
