The City Council will acquire the former facilities of the Tax Office of the city, at Rua Ernesto de Carvalho, in Vila Nova de Famalicão, to install there the environmental services of the municipality, whose building will be transformed into a residence for university students.
The acquisition of this property, which became free with the opening, in 2021, of the Famalicão Loja do Cidadão (Citizen Shop), will result in a municipal investment of around 550 thousand euros, approved today in the Municipal Executive meeting.
The building is currently under the guardianship of ESTAMO - Real Estate Participations, a company created by the Portuguese State in 1993, dedicated to the purchase and sale of real estate, including the resale of those that are acquired for this purpose.
The purchase from ESTAMO of this property, an autonomous fraction with 868 m2, will be made in three annual instalments, divided into 200 thousand euros, 175 thousand euros and 175 thousand euros, with full payment of the property concluded in 2025.
This acquisition, by the famalicense municipality, will allow keeping the centrality of the services related to the environment, without overloading the already existing municipal buildings, namely the City Council.
The future residence for students, in the current facilities of municipal services related to the environment, will have a capacity for nearly a hundred beds and will respond to four institutions of Higher Education in the county, including: Cooperativa de Ensino Superior Politécnico e Universitário (CESPU), Instituto Politécnico do Cávado e do Ave (IPCA), Universidade do Minho and Universidade Lusíada. It will be a three million euro investment financed by the National Plan for Accommodation in Higher Education.
