The Antonine Festivities of Famalicão are also synonymous of much sport. The biggest event of the pilgrimage - the Bernardino Machado Athletics Grand Prix - is scheduled for 10am on Sunday, June 11.
The event, organised by the municipality in collaboration with the Braga Athletics Association, is divided into two segments: a 10-kilometre run and a six-kilometre walk.
The start and finish will be at Parque da Juventude.
Athletes representing clubs, collectivities, popular organisations, companies and individuals, federated or not, in the Juniors, Seniors and Veterans categories may participate in the race.
Registrations are free and will take place online, until June 8, on the Famalicão Desportivo website, at
www.famalicaodesportivo.pt, on the Associação de Atletismo de Braga website, at
www.aabraga.pt, or in person until June 7, at the Casa da Cultura, at the Municipal Swimming Pools and at the Famalicão em Forma project Office. Last minute registrations at the event's secretariat, in Parque da Juventude, will be subject to a 5 euro fee.
It is worth mentioning that this is only one of the several sports events included in the programme of this year's edition of the Famalicão Antonine Festivities, which will take place from 7th to 13th of June. Note also for the already traditional Raid All Terrain, for the Alex Ryu Jitsu Portugal Cup Open, Street Basket Tournament, among other moments.
It is worth recollecting that the Antonine Festivities take place with a vast program made up of almost forty activities spread throughout seven days blessed by Saint Anthony, with initiatives for all tastes and ages, thinking not only of the famalicenses, but also of the many thousands of people that visit the city at this time.
Xutos & Pontapés, the Brazilian Maninho and the Portuguese rapper T-Rex are some of the names that will liven up the great festivities of the famalicense municipality, which promise to do justice to the recent classification as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Portugal.
