Popular young Portuguese artist Bárbara Bandeira will make her debut in Famalicão on 23 September at Praça D. Maria II, at 21h30. Maria Gil will give the first part of the concert, as part of the Famalicão Youth Festival (FYF), from Famalicão. Admission is free.
This year's FYF takes on greater significance as it is the highlight of the celebrations of the Casa da Juventude's 10th anniversary.
It should be noted that, for technical and logistical reasons, the venue for the concert, initially planned for the open-air amphitheatre in Parque da Devesa, has been moved to Praça D. Maria II, in the city centre, where on the same day there will also be an exhibition of the municipality's student associations from 6pm, in Alameda D. Maria II.
"On this day, Famalicão will be the meeting point for young people, on a night that will certainly be memorable, both because of the artists who will be taking to the stage and because we are celebrating a decade of the Casa da Juventude's existence," says the Mayor, Mário Passos, who takes the opportunity to praise the municipality's support and policies for young people. "Young people are our future. They are one of our top priorities and we are therefore very attentive to their aspirations and the challenges they currently face."
In addition to the Famalicão Youth Festival, the programme celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Casa da Juventude, which will take place on the 20th, also includes other activities.
On 20 September, there will be free workshops and classes at the Casa da Juventude on topics such as hip-hop, drumming, analogue photography, illustration, healthy meals, leadership, among others, as well as an open space for Famalicão's Student Associations and musical performances by Tunas Académicas and local artists.
The birthday cake will be cut on the day at 17.30.
Also noteworthy are the performances by young Famalicão bands ZUL, Mismatch and The Lightning Circle, who will "occupy" the Casa da Juventude from 10pm on 20, 21 and 22 September respectively.
Throughout the celebrations, throughout the Casa da Juventude building, there will be displays of posters and photographs illustrating the various activities that mark the space's first decade.
The Casa da Juventude de Famalicão was inaugurated in 2013 and is housed in a mansion built by a family from Brazil at the end of the 19th century. The property was acquired in 2002 by the Famalicão local authority, which restored it, maintaining the original design, dignifying and valorising the space that is now home to the young people of Famalicão.
The entire programme for the 10th anniversary of the Casa da Juventude, as well as information on how to take part in the workshops, can be found at www.juventudefamalicao.org.
