A Sweet Easter Weekend in Famalicão

25-03-2026
There are times of year that are steeped in tradition, and Easter is undoubtedly one of them. With colourful almonds, moist sponge cake and recipes passed down through the generations, these sweet treats become true symbols of sharing, family and celebration.

Next weekend, on 28 and 29 March, the town centre of Famalicão will host a programme of events that promises to delight the senses and engage the whole community.

On Saturday, 28 March, the Praça - Mercado Municipal will host the 4th “Vila Nova de Famalicão 2026 Easter Sweet” Competition. Participants must submit their cakes by 14h30, with the winners announced at 18h00, during a ceremony that includes the presentation of prizes and a free cake tasting accompanied by vinho verde.

Later that afternoon, at 15h00, there will be a show cooking session dedicated to Easter sweets, led by chef Edgar Teixeira, offering the public the chance to learn techniques and secrets of traditional confectionery.

On 28 and 29 March and again on 3 and 4 April, Praça D. Maria II will host the 5th Sweet Easter Fair, from 10h00 to 20h00. The event returns this year with two weekends of entertainment, featuring a programme that combines religion with culture and gastronomy.

It should be noted that these initiatives form part of the programme for Holy Week in Famalicão, which runs until 5 April, where tradition is experienced and savoured to the full.
