Work has already begun on the fourth edition of the Young Orchestra of Famalicão (JOF), an orchestra-training course that will give two concerts at Casa das Artes de Famalicão on September 2nd and 3rd. This year there are almost 90 young instrumentalists that compose the orchestra, under the artistic direction of the conductor José Eduardo Gomes.
This short-term symphonic orchestra training promoted by Casa das Artes de Famalicão will take place from August 29th to September 3rd and will present "Sem pedras não há arco" by Ângela da Ponte and the Symphony No. 1 by Gustav Mahler.
The number of places rose this year from 79 to 87 participants, distributed among string instruments (26 violins; 10 violas; 8 cellos; 6 double basses); wind instruments (4 flutes; 4 oboes; 4 clarinets; 3 bassoons; 7 French horns; 4 trumpets; 2 tenor trombones; 1 bass trombone, 1 tuba and 1 harp) and 6 percussion instruments. Young instrumentalists from the municipality and/or with pre-university education in Vila Nova de Famalicão could apply.
JOF is part of the "RESART - Artist Residencies Plan" of Casa das Artes in the strategic objective of encouraging local and national artistic creation in various areas, regularly promoting artistic residencies of creation. These are part of the annual artistic residency plan of the original co-productions of Casa das Artes, and Axis II Novo Futuro/Emergentes, where the JOF project stands out in the area of Music.
It should be noted that JOF also counts on the collaboration of an Advisory Board made up of representatives of the boards of specialized artistic education and professional music education institutions of the municipality: CCM - Centre for Musical Culture, ArtEduca - Vila Nova de Famalicão Music Conservatory and ARTAVE - Artistic Professional School of Vale do Ave.
This edition of JOF counts with the support of Antena2, which will record the concerts.
