Ymotion wants short films! More precisely, short films produced by young filmmakers from 12 to 35 years old living in Portugal. Registrations and applications to the competition of the 8th edition of the Famalicão Youth Film Festival take place until next October 14th and include pecuniary prizes up to 2500 Euros. So far, more than one hundred works have been received.
In dispute are the prizes: "Joaquim de Almeida Grand Prize" worth 2500 euros, "High Schools Prize" worth 750 euros, "Best Documentary Prize" worth 750 euros, "Best Animation Prize" worth 600 euros, "Audience Award" worth 350 euros, "Best Acting Prize" worth 250 euros, "Best Screenplay Prize" worth 250 euros and "Best Cinematography Prize" also worth 250 euros. Ymotion applications may be submitted
here.
As in the other editions, the screenwriter and film critic, Tiago R. Santos, remains as president of the jury of the short film competition, which will be accompanied by a panel of judges composed of famous names of the current panorama of cinema, arts, music and photography, among them: Paulo Trancoso (president of the Portuguese Film Academy), Cláudia Clemente (writer, director and photographer), Paulo Pires (actor), Fernando Vasquez (journalist, film critic and film programming director), Lúcia Pires (director, screenwriter, producer and actress) and Bruno Carnide (director, university professor, film programmer and curator).
The 8th edition of Ymotion will take place from 21 to 26 November 2022 at Casa da Juventude, Centro de Estudos Camilianos and Fundação Castro Alves, in Vila Nova de Famalicão.
It is worth remembering that the kick-off of this year's edition of Ymotion happened on 7 May, with the start of the registration period for short films in the competition and the consecration of Vila Nova de Famalicão as Youth Cinema Capital. This edition had already 'warmed up' with the cycle of "Screenings and Talks with Young Filmmakers", which took place from 27 January to 10 March, in secondary schools and higher education institutions in Famalicão, Porto and Santo Tirso. The Ymotion festival is promoted since 2015 by the Youth Department of Vila Nova de Famalicão Municipality.
