Operating since late September 2020, the Women and Children’s Clinic of Famalicão unit of the Médio Ave Hospital Centre (CHMA) was visited last Thursday by the Mayor, Paulo Cunha, and several entrepreneurs of the county who, together with the City Council, supported the total investment of 300,000 euros in the construction of the structure.
The delegation was led by the president of the Health Unit's Board of Directors, António Barbosa, who thanked everyone for their support, especially the City Council that "guaranteed 50 per cent of the funding, giving impetus to the project, and helped mobilise the county's entrepreneurs, safeguarding the other 50 per cent of the investment".
The Women and Children's Clinic is a unique and innovative infrastructure, which concentrates health care provided in the areas of paediatrics, gynaecology and obstetrics, allowing users to receive treatment without entering the hospital area.
Visibly pleased with the positive changes that the infrastructure has brought to the hospital, António Barbosa stressed, "the clinic has brought benefits for users and for professionals, allowing for an increase in quality, convenience and safety for users and providing better working conditions for professionals".
"It is perfectly evident the improvements in terms of service, response, quality and, above all, the relationship with the community", added Paulo Cunha, underlining that "it is useless to have good schools, good parks, if there are no good conditions to be born in Famalicão".
For the mayor of Famalicão "it is fundamental that the county maintains this institutional relationship with the hospital, because health is an area that concerns the whole community".
During the visit, the Dr. Gonçalves Oliveira Room was symbolically inaugurated, one of the most renowned paediatricians in the country, who was for many years the director of the Paediatrics service of the Médio Ave Hospital Centre.
A protocol was also signed for the donation to CHMA of a neonatal resuscitator, once again the result of municipal investment with the support of the famalicense business fabric.
