The City Council of Vila Nova de Famalicão will channel to the Parish Councils of Famalicão more than 5,5 million euros, in a clear bet on the autonomy of local executives. The transfer of 2,2 million euros in free funds, whose protocols were approved in the last City Council meeting, is the first impulse that the Parish Councils receive for their municipal management. The other impulses, to be transferred throughout the year, will be sent through capital transfers, 2.7 million euros, and current transfers, 600 thousand euros, which is equivalent to the transfer of competencies for road cleaning, equipment maintenance, among others.
In relation to the previous year, the great increase appears in the value corresponding to capital transfers, whose funds are intended for the execution of structural works for localities and whose support increases this year by 26%. Despite this, the Mayor, Mário Passos, assumes the challenge of "increasing, throughout this year, even more capital investment in the parishes. It is something that is on our horizon and we will do everything to achieve it".
"We want to improve the efficiency of municipal management, both at municipal level and at the level of the parishes", said Mário Passos. The mayor highlights that the amount and planning of transfers was made in agreement with the parish councils of the municipality and obey the principles of balance and territorial cohesion. "This amount of money transferred to the local authorities is a clear reflection of our commitment and respect for the local elected representatives. We want a municipality to develop in an equitable way and at the same speed, and the bet on this autonomy is a guarantee of this balance and of a good execution", he adds.
