Over 50,000 people visited the Famalicão Crafts and Gastronomy Fair in Praça Mouzinho de Albuquerque over the last three days. The highest number of visitors was this Sunday, fuelled by the concert by Cláudia Martins & Minhotos Marotos.
In these first three days, the fair has already received more visitors than the first few days of last year's edition. In view of this turnout, the mayor of Vila Nova de Famalicão, Mário Passos, even expects the number of visitors to the 39th edition of the fair to exceed the number registered at the last event, since this year the event ‘is more in line with the concept that Famalicão has defined for the Crafts and Gastronomy Fair’. ‘All the conditions are in place for us to have another excellent fair,’ the mayor added yesterday during his visit to the event.
This year, Praça Mouzinho de Albuquerque welcomes not only more people, but also more artisans, gastronomic producers and stands. ‘In Famalicão, we have handicrafts and gastronomy, brought from the north to the south of the country, which represent the best that is made in Portugal,’ Mário Passos also noted. The cultural programme, with names of national reference and projects from Famalicão, also makes ‘the city an attractive place to visit’, he added.
The Crafts and Gastronomy Fair is free to enter and runs until 8 September. Traditional knowledge and flavours are joined by various musical shows, which will liven up the fair for ten days. The event's stages will also host the 11th Famalicão Fado Festival on 4 September and concerts by Plutonio (3 September) and António Zambujo (5 September).
