A dozen young people, aged between 13 and 19, from the social housing estates of Cal, in Calendário, and Moinho de Vento, in Fradelos, will bring electronic music to the Textile Industry Museum of the Ave Basin, on the 4th December, at 21h00. The concert, with free entrance and requiring presentation of a valid Digital COVID Certificate, results from the musical project "Centro de Cultura Digital", developed by Franklin Soares Monteiro (Frankão).
"Teaching how to work beats, beatmaker, make beats for hip hop, for favela funk, and, at the same time, work on top of production, which encompasses all the details that lead to the music, equalization, mixing, mastering, etc.", was the purpose of the work carried out with the youngsters by the musician and producer of the project, Frankão, comments himself. "I show the elements and then they make the decisions, they are autonomous (...) they make the music they want to make, and that gives more meaning to what is done", emphasizes the musician.
Besides the youngsters that will perform in the museum, a total of 20 teenagers participated in the musical training workshops. Through the "Centro de Cultura Digital", they had contact with rhythmic construction bases, handling of digital music creation instruments, music production and recording, among others, from June to November 2021.
"At the beginning I didn't feel very comfortable, because I didn't understand anything about it", comments Vânia, 17 years old, "but now I'm really enjoying it, I'm learning, it's being very interesting".
Isac, 13 years old, shares the same opinion as Vânia. "I really like what I'm doing (...) I feel I have room to create and bring something new", he comments.
"Frankão has been teaching us how music is made. He has a program on his computer and is explaining to us how to use it", explains 17-year-old Luana. "We've been composing a song and now we're going to do new things", she adds.
Franklin Soares Monteiro, born in Angra dos Reis, Brazil, coordinates, in partnership with the City Council of Famalicão, projects of social inclusion through culture, such as "Favela 31", constituted by youngsters of gypsy ethnicity and "2-noventa", a project for young residents of Bairro das Lameiras.
