To ensure the public sanitation service to all famalicenses agglomerates, which is of the most elementary justice
Mário Passos
From the 1st of February, the service coverage of wastewater collection (sanitation) in the territory will be 100%, with the introduction of the cleaning service of septic tanks, at the same price of the service provided by the network, for citizens who, in Famalicão, are not yet served by the basic sanitation network.
In today's City Hall meeting, on January 27, the municipal executive will analyse a proposal to change the tariff applicable to the septic tank cleaning service in places not served by the sewage network. In practice, after approved and considering a cistern with capacity to collect 6 m³ of wastewater, the famalicenses covered will pay, in this case, eight euros for each time they trigger the cleaning service of their septic tanks.
Mayor Mário Passos, who made this commitment to famalicenses during his electoral campaign, stresses the importance of the measure "to ensure the public sanitation service to all famalicenses agglomerates, which is of the most elementary justice, and for environmental protection that is achieved through the preservation of groundwater and deterrence of illegal discharges into the environment".
The service can be requested by citizens through a form available at www.famalicao.pt or by telephone, on the number 252 377 036. To guarantee the service, two collection tanks will be available, one with a capacity for 6 m³ and the other for 10 m³.
It is worth reminding that in the last few years the municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão has been developing a great financial effort in the enlargement of the basic sanitation network, channelling several million Euros of its budget to cover this need, which for many years has not been contemplated with communitarian financing programs. The current coverage is around 90%.
