This Sunday, August 11, the Cupertino de Miranda Foundation in Famalicão will host a concert as part of the Porto Pianofest - Porto International Music Festival programme, starting at 5pm and with free admission. The 9th edition of the international music festival will take place in the cities of Porto, Vila Nova de Famalicão and Matosinhos, with two dozen concerts, most of them in cultural venues in Porto.
The Porto Pianofest 2024 programme includes established artists and future stars of the music world, and the concert at the Cupertino de Miranda Foundation will be no exception.
This Sunday, the Famalicense auditorium will host the "PPF on Tour", which consists of the final concert by the participants of the Artistic Residencies and Masterclasses of this edition of the festival, sharing the work developed by the young pianists and pianist-composers throughout these teaching programmes.
At this free concert, the festival's artistic director, Nuno Marques, will introduce each of the artists, talk a little about their career and present the repertoire that will be played. "It's an honour for the festival to support the thriving cultural scene that exists in Vila Nova de Famalicão and to take our international participants to get to know the country and take their music outside the main urban centres," say the organisers about this decentralised festival initiative.
Porto Pianofest, now in its 9th edition, is directed by Nuno Marques and was founded in 2016 by him and American pianist-composer Mariel Mayz, because of a joint production with Porto City Council. The event, which has the High Patronage of the President of the Republic, has presented outstanding international artists since its first edition, such as Artur Pizarro, Stars of American Ballet, Alexander Kobrin, Judith Jauregui, Olga Prats, Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos, João Paulo Esteves da Silva, António Victorino D'Almeida, among others.
This is the fourth time that the festival has passed through Vila Nova de Famalicão, in collaboration with the Famalicão Municipality and the Cupertino de Miranda Foundation.
