"Jungle of fragmented objects" is an exhibition dedicated to Philip West, with the collection of the Eugenio Granell Foundation, from Santiago de Compostela.
We present 82 works by the artist who early left his homeland York, England, where he was born on February 20, 1949, for Zaragoza, Spain.
West recreates everyday objects in his imaginary world, in a fantastic and unreal universe, assuming the maxim of Surrealism in his works: Freedom, Love and Poetry. At the beginning of his artistic production, in the mid-1960s, we find in the painting a figurative and surrealist style, taking more interest in the erotic side of Pop Art.

The drawings of insects and birds resulted from various ornithological excursions to the sea and countryside, responding to his interest in nature and living beings. Metaphorical works, with antagonistic languages and bright colours, presenting a vision of the organic, of the internal geographies of the earth and the human body, almost as a demonstration of the cycle of life - from conception to death -, in search of an explanation of the phenomena of our existence.

His work exposes a mixture between reality and dream, life and death, heaven and earth, man and angel, in an iconographic cycle and visual poetry, summarising life, love and death.
A large part of the works presented here date back to the beginning of the 1990s, at a time when the artist states "Para mi, ahora, el surrealismo es vivir la vida como si fuera un poema. Como no se donde voy, trato de disfrutar del viaje..." and that "...cuando trabajo no pienso, el arte creativo es la experiencia."

This exhibition takes us on a journey through the work of Philip West, with multiple emblematic and transformative fragments from his jungle of objects.
