The City Hall of Vila Nova de Famalicão will mark the commemorations of the Council Day on September 28, with the municipal recognition to the 57 educational institutions of the entire municipality distinguished this year with the Eco-School flag, and that placed Vila Nova de Famalicão in the top 5 municipalities with more distinctions in the country.
"At a time when the world is faced with enormous environmental challenges and sustainability is the watchword, the work in schools for the ecological cause is decisive in safeguarding the future of the planet." The Mayor, Mário Passos, wants, thus, to take advantage of the 187th anniversary of the Council's Day to "praise and encourage the work of environmental awareness, especially among the younger generations", he says.
The ceremony will take place in the Casa do Território, located in the Devesa Park, from 16h00, a framework coated with strong symbolic charge, for what this urban park represents for famalicenses in terms of quality of life, and precisely on 28, celebrate 10 years of life.
The 10th anniversary of the Devesa Park will be marked at the end of the tribute to Eco-Schools with the inauguration of the exhibition "Devesa 10 - Much more than a Park.
Recall that on September 28, 1835 took place the first meeting of the Municipal Commission, chaired by António Ribeiro de Queiroz Moreira, which opened and defined the destinies of the land of Vila Nova, following the restoration of municipal autonomy of Vila Nova de Famalicão, proclaimed by Queen D. Maria II.
The commemorations of the Municipality's Day will continue until Sunday with the Great Fair of S. Miguel. The initiative, which will take place in the renovated Mouzinho de Albuquerque and D. Maria II squares, will start on September 29 and continue until October 2, celebrating the agricultural activity, the traditions, uses and customs and the identity of Famalicão.
