The Municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão was re-elected to the Coordination Commission of the Portuguese Territorial Network of Educating Cities, an organ that also includes representatives of the Municipalities of Lisbon, Torres Vedras, Águeda, Lagoa, Santo Tirso and Valongo. The Commission was elected by the 52 municipalities that participated in the National Meeting held this Friday, January 20, at the Ermesinde Cultural Forum in Valongo.
The Mayor of Vila Nova de Famalicão, Mário Passos, stresses that the election "is a reason for satisfaction and responsibility", certain that this role is reflective "of the work that has been developed in education, a seed where future citizens germinate, and the commitment that Famalicão assumes with broad municipal policies, which privilege the principle of differentiation and non-discrimination, the implementation of inclusive quality education, and throughout life. An example is the municipal investment that ensures, from pre-school education, knowledge and the promotion of innovation capacity, which is reflected in the entrepreneurial vein of this county".
Augusto Lima, Councillor of Education and Science, presented the arguments of the council to continue working on the coordination of the project in the next two years. "We are proud to be an Educating City and as we have done since 2019, when the first election, in this mandate we will continue to work to create synergies, establish bridges and consolidate networking in this forum, involving and sharing knowledge, to build a better future for all" he said.
The concept of 'Education City' is a model of management and development that runs through the entire municipal administration, not limited to the school environment, and that involves the entire community and its agents.
It should be noted that the Municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão joined the International Association of Educating Cities (AICE) in 2010, also becoming part of the Portuguese Territorial Network of Educating Cities, organizations that promote the exchange and sharing of experiences in the field of education, in all its scope, and that understand the city as a space offering important elements for an integral formation of the individual.
