“30 thousand trees for 2030” is the new environmental goal set by the City Council of Vila Nova de Famalicão to reforest the county. After the conclusion of the project “25 thousand trees para 2025”, which was largely surpassed, the Mayor, Mário Passos, launched, this morning, a new challenge during the plantation of a holly, symbol of protection, happiness and peace, being a usual presence during the Christmas season.
The moment was also marked with the Native Forest Day, which is celebrated this Tuesday, took place in a forest, located in Sezures, which was targeted for reforestation, with the plantation of 450 trees of native species: Strawberry tree, European Oak and Maritime Pine.
Mário Passos explained the success of the project “25 thousand trees for 2025” with the involvement of all the Famalicenses and the communities. "This land is an excellent example of the forestation that has been done in the county. A forestation that also has the support of landowners, as is the case here", explained the mayor, also highlighting the work done in the Devesa Park that will receive the planting of two thousand trees. "Famalicão is to be congratulated because it knew how to embrace this project and transform the landscape of the territory and the famalicenses are also to be congratulated and an example of this is the adhesion of the population to the campaigns of trees and shrubs donation" added Mário Passos referring to the campaign that took place last Saturday in the Praça, with the presence of the population.
It should be noted that in the scope of the 25 thousand trees project, adhesion agreements were signed with 5 landowners that allowed the plantation and reforestation of the land with native trees, with the previous study made by the Vale do Ave Association of Foresters and the respective approval of the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests.
In Sezures, the land with a total area of 1,7800 hectares received 450 trees of native species among Strawberry trees, European Oak and Maritime Pine.
It was also announced that next December, the City Council will move forward with a 6.º project in the Parish of Avidos, which will involve the planting 850 more plants.
“We want a greener, healthier and more sustainable county. That is our goal”, emphasised Mário Passos
