We know that many holiday and event plans have been altered by the Covid 19 pandemic, but this is no reason not to enjoy the hot days and not get involved with the municipality and the city
Paulo Cunha, Mayor
Cheer up! The suggestion of the municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão for the summer months is for people to leave home and enjoy social life as much as possible. And there are many good reasons for it! Over the next three months, Famalicão's summer socio-cultural entertainment programme offers proposals for concerts, cinema, sports, guided tours, workshops, outings, street food and craft market.
There will be several dozen shows and initiatives where names like Silvia Pérez Cruz, Katia Guerreiro, Noiserv, Salvador Sobral, Samuel Úria and Daniel Pereira Cristo, among many others, stand out. The large cultural showroom will be installed in the Devesa Park, in the open air, by the lake, in a limited area, with assistance conditioned to the conditions imposed by the Directorate-General for Health. All the shows will be free of charge, but with obligatory pick up on the same day of the show (from 3pm). The space will be prepared to receive 882 people with all safety conditions. This will be the epicentre of events such as Devesa Sunset, Honey - Arts Picnic, Jazz in the Box, Germinal and Fado Festival, all in "Cheer up" mode. Here, it will also be the stage for the open-air cinema, which Joane's Cineclube has been promoting in Vila Nova de Famalicão since 1999, in a programme that meets a wide and transversal audience.
Outside the Devesa stage there is sport for everyone with the 7th edition of Move (“Move-te”) taking place in various locations in the municipality, providing the famalicenses classes in Pilates, Zumba, Hip Hop, Crossfit, Yoga, Hydro gymnastics, among others, with the collaboration of gyms, sports associations and parish councils.
In the city centre, there is Handicraft Market and Street Food, between July and September, for the good return of the social life possible. But there are also proposals from tourist routes that do not stop at the city, its parks, gardens and architecture. It will be possible to walk along riverside trails around the "Our Rivers" project and observe the incredible variety of birds that pass through the Protected Local Landscape of the Pateiras, in Fradelos.
And even Camilo has proposals to animate Famalicão with guided visits to the novelist's house, with walks on the Cangosta Trail, a path taken by Camilo on his trips to the Landim Monastery, and even with Cine-Esplanada, a cycle of cinema in the gardens of Casa de Seide.
Casa da Juventude also joins the film proposals outdoors with a number of Portuguese film proposals and the presence of family directors. And concerts for the youth, of course: Byrd Sno and Terra Batida, July 25th.
"For some years now Famalicão has had a strong pulse in the summer months, but this year, due to the circumstances, it will pulse harder", says the Mayor, Paulo Cunha, who wants to "provide conditions for people to enjoy the summer and the holidays in Famalicão in a healthy, substantial and safe way”.
"We know that many holiday and event plans have been altered by the Covid 19 pandemic, but this is no reason not to enjoy the hot days and not get involved with the municipality and the city", adds Paulo Cunha.
