Vila Nova de Famalicão City Council today handed over 15 new electric vehicles to the Médio Ave Local Health Unit (ULS). The new fleet of cars will now be distributed among the various family health units in the municipality to provide medical and nursing care at home.
The chairman of the ULS board of directors, António Barbosa, spoke of "excellent news for the county's health professionals" who carry out their duties "with many constraints, often due to the lack of transport available, but also due to the condition of the nine vehicles we had at our disposal, which were very worn and worn out", not forgetting the benefits that the new fleet brings to the county's users.
He also explained that the vehicles will be distributed according to the size of the health units and their travelling needs.
The mayor, Mário Passos, believes that with these new "more modern and environmentally friendly" vehicles, another step has been taken towards more and better healthcare in the municipality and a more efficient response to the needs of the community. "This is good news for Famalicão," he said.
It should be noted that the vehicles delivered today to the ULS do Médio Ave are the result of an investment of over half a million euros and were given to the municipality by the Northern Regional Health Administration (ARS Norte), under the PRR - Recovery and Resilience Plan (Investment Re-C1-i01 - "Primary Health Care with more responses").
It's worth remembering that in January 2024, the City Council assumed competences in the area of Health, namely the management of the buildings of the 14 primary health care units in the municipality and the integration of the operational assistants who work in these Health Centres into its staff.
