Music and nature, hand in hand with the sunset, create a scenery that will be missed by the many people who, throughout August, chose Devesa Park on Friday evenings to attend the Devesa Sunset concerts.
And it's not just the music that attracts those who gather in the meadow at the end of the afternoon. With their blankets spread out, it's the atmosphere, the artists, nature and the certainty of a cosy evening that brings the public, who come as a family and repeat the shows. This is the secret to the success of Devesa Sunset, an initiative that has been repeated since 2015 and has brought artists of different musical styles to Famalicão for an audience of different generations.
Last Friday, Azorean musician and singer Cristovám performed different songs from his solo albums ‘Hopes & Dreams’ and ‘Songs On a Wire’. Recognised by the public for the release of ‘Andrà Tutto Bene’, a song that went viral during the pandemic, Cristovám closed this year's edition with another concert that earned the applause of everyone who gathered in the park. ‘It's undoubtedly a special song that brought a lot of people to my music and, above all, it's a song that people identified with,’ said the artist to the press at the end of the show.
In addition to Cristovám, the tenth edition of Devesa Sunset featured the singer Milhanas, Flyte, a project by British artists Will Taylor and Nick Hill, and Nancy Vieira, who brought a mixture of tradition and new sounds from Cape Verde to the shores of the lake in a relaxed atmosphere. The organisation estimates that more than 4,000 people attended the shows this summer.
In recent years, the event has seen the likes of Silvia Pérez Cruz, Maro, Manuel Cruz, Noiserv, Samuel Úria, Márcia, Tiago Nacarato, Salvador Sobral and Rubel, among many others. The familiar and intimate spirit that is always present is one of the main hallmarks of the event, which promises to return in August 2025.
