Vila Nova de Famalicão will dedicate the next four days to books and reading. Starting tomorrow, Thursday 16th, the city centre will host the "Book Festival" and the renovated D. Maria II Square will be transformed into a real open-air library and bookshop.
The initiative is promoted by the Camilo Castelo Branco Municipal Library and runs until Sunday 19th, with a cultural programme aimed at schools, families and the public.
A Book Fair will be held in partnership with the Municipal Library and the Fontenova Bookstore, with an exhibition and sale of general editorial publications for adults and children, as well as publications published by the Town Hall.
The overall programme also includes a poetic-musical intervention on Lusophone poetry, performed by Ivo Machado and António Sousa, on Friday evening (21h00), and a meeting with the storyteller Estefânia Surreira, on Saturday (10h30), reading the story "Maria Mulata".
As a strategy for the promotion of reading and dissemination of famalicense writers, the initiative also provides for autograph sessions with guest authors: Ivo Arantes, Thursday (15h00), and Diana Torres and Sandra Carvalho, on Sunday afternoon, at 15h00 and 17h00, respectively.
"Initiatives to promote books and reading are always welcome in the public space and I hope that famalicenses enjoy this Book Festival", says the Mayor, Mário Passos.
The "Book Festival - Famalicão to Read" will take place at the following times: 16th (Thursday) and 19th (Sunday), from 14h30 to 19h30, and 17th (Friday) and 18th (Saturday), between 10h00 and 22h00
